Similar in appearance, taste and heat to the better known Jalapeno, but thought to be more intensely flavoured with smoky undertones, making it a favourite for chefs and home cooks.
The Fresno is very similar to the highly popular Jalapeno chilli; same shape, same size, similar heat levels. It’s the Fresno’s subtle smoky undertones and more intense fruity flavour when red that set this chilli apart, making it very popular amongst home cooks and chefs.
Fresnos can be eaten green or red, but due to their thick skin they are rarely ever dried or powdered. When green they measure in at around 2,000 Scoville Heat Units, but fully mature pods can reach 10,000 Scoville Heat Units.
The Fresno chilli is also known as chile Caribe or chile Cera.
