Who hasn't heard of the Jalapeno? The Jalapeno is undoubtedly the most popular chilli in the Western world, and is a must-have for home cooks and chefs alike.

Despite it most commonly being picked and consumed when still green, the Jalapeno actually matures to a vibrant red, and gets hotter as it matures. The red Jalapeno is the base of the famous Siracha chilli sauce.

The pods are thick skinned and crunchy, and the fruit measures anywhere from 3,500 - 8,000 Scoville Heat Units. It originated in Mexico and is named after the city of Xalapa (Jalapa).
